If the onboard interface is good, this new Maschine update could just be the “groovebox and sound card” combo that bedroom producers have been waiting for. The Maschine line has been a staple in production studios because of its tight integration with the accompanying Maschine software, which itself has matured into a full-on digital audio workstation. Native Instruments’ groovebox has grown up in a big way – the lack of an onboard sound card has always been a sore spot with Maschine, and this latest version finally addresses that. The biggest new feature is the onboard audio interface: it sports a pair of 1/4″ line outputs, 1/4″ line inputs, Midi In and Out jacks, a 1/4″ headphone output, and a Midi input jack for connecting a footswitch. Maybe you're seeing the same thing? MIDI data that's simply out of range.Native Instruments just launched the Maschine MK3, the latest update to its hardware and software production platform. Many people have launched Maschine in MIDI mode to control Massive, can play notes but cannot. This is a new computer and that adjustment would have been reset. I had to abandon the idea before repairing it, but I seem to remember the Maschine being configured to play middle octaves, which means I must have adjusted it in software (Controller Editor, I assume). None of this was surprising - the Maschine is playing C-1 (that's C *minus* 1) to Eb0 (zero). ![]() I hit record to see what data was making it into PT and noticed that there were in fact notes, but they were far below the range of the instrument. I could see activity on the MIDI track but no samples were being played. Goto to the VST Software - select the Instrument Group Input Properties - Midi and drop down the menu to Drumkit. Then I created a MIDI track, routed it to the VI, and again hit all the drum pads. Loading up Maschine as a single track VST, load up your Drum Kit for working in Reaper, then use the Maschine 'Shift - MIDI' buttons to turn the Mk3 into a Midi Controller. With the ENDO Maschine MK3 Mapping, you can turn your Maschine controller into a powerful 4 deck controller that controls almost EVERYTHING in TRAKTOR. I quickly remembered that those meters only show audio, not MIDI. Last week I tried using the Maschine to record MIDI into PT via an Instrument track, noticing that I didn't see any movement in the main track meters when hitting the drum pads.

Phillips says he’d been heading in a more dramatic direction, getting darker and more serious with each film – he’s currently exec-producing an HBO series about the rise of Islamic State. In that context, it makes sense for Hill to have instead gone for War Dogs, which is decidedly more dramatic than Phillips’s previous features the Hangover films especially – or at least the first two – were wild comedies, in which Galifianakis got tasered by a child and Ed Helms woke up with a Mike Tyson facial tattoo. He was concentrating on dramatic roles, he didn’t wanna just be a comedy guy.” But Jonah didn’t want to do it, which I respect and still harbour resentment towards.” He laughs. I’d tried to get Jonah to be in The Hangover.” In the Zack Galifianakis part? “Yeah. To go in and tonally shift a Marty/Leo movie? He’s an electric actor and I was always dying to work with him. I had read that script out of curiosity before they made the movie, and it wasn’t what the movie was. “Look at every Martin Scorsese movie, then look at Wolf Of Wall Street – it stands out so differently. ![]() “He can singlehandedly change the tone of a film with his energy and his exuberance,” he says. He enthuses about Miles Teller’s everyman performance, but gushes about Hill’s arrogant, giggling swagger. So they went to these two kids knowing they were gonna source it in a shady way, and as long as nobody knows, wink wink we’re cool. “The government knew that they couldn’t source 100m rounds of AK ammo in the middle of a drought after two Iraq wars. “To me the guys are heroes,” says Phillips. Despite their unscrupulous exploits, these two underdogs took on the government and, until they started cutting corners, won big-time. He admires how ballsy the War Dogs leads were in real life. It’s a really depressing reality, and the more you can shine a light on it through movies and articles and books, the better it is.” And besides, he says, “It just felt like, ‘Wouldn’t it be fun to do the 23-year-old Jewish version of Scarface?’” It’s like, ‘Fuck this, the system is rigged.’ The system is set up for the rich to get richer and everybody else to stay where they are. It’s such bullshit they sell people, that war is about protecting your freedom, but meanwhile people are making billions and billions of dollars. For Phillips, who had read about the story in a 2011 Rolling Stone article, the subject matter resonated. The Pentagon needed the weaponry that was left over from the cold war and hidden around Europe, so paid sanctioned proxies such as Diveroli and Packouz to buy them on the down low. War Dogs is based on a true story about Efraim Diveroli (Jonah Hill) and David Packouz (Miles Teller), two twentysomething potheads-turned-arms dealers who, in 2007, got a $300m Department of Defense contract to sell weapons for US-backed militias in Afghanistan. ![]() His latest, though, tackles meatier material. ![]() Thanks to that stag-do trilogy, Phillips became one of Hollywood’s most successful comedy directors – together the films earned £1.4bn. He crossed over to fiction, revisiting frat houses for the Will Ferrell-starring Old School, as well as remaking Starsky And Hutch, starring Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller, and directing the Hangover films. For a while Phillips was right: he followed Hated with Frat House, another disgusting documentary that lifted the lid on fraternity fun and found Phillips, in an attempt to gain the trust of his subjects, locked in a dog cage while they threw beer and ash on him. ![]() The best free services are there to give you a taste of the full product, and tend to limit the amount of data you can use, as well as the speed you can use it at. I was just wondering if anyone could share his/her experience on using the E-RM Multiclock to synchronize hardware gear (without a computer/daw). Multiclock will be available from May 2015. ![]() So yes, it’ll be great to evaluate these claims in performance. I can also tell you E-RM are obsessive about quality and sustainable production. And it could change the way machines in your studio arrive in time. ERM Multiclock vs Innerclock Systems for Tightest Midi Connectivity Im looking to buy an ERM Multiclock or one of Innerclock Systems midi many devices to sync my hardware setup with Ableton. 449€ is a hefty price, but … it could be the last sync/clock device you ever buy. Otherwise, I think there are bunch of other master clock modules on modular grid that are bigger and/or have less channels but I haven’t used them. A “MIDI Map & Merge Matrix” lets you route and merge MIDI notes and control messages over MIDI or USB to particular outputs.Į-RM is a neighbor of mine – in Berlin and this week at Messe – so I’m curious to give this a try. Isn’t that just a clock divided to your liking Not sure what you have against screens, but pamela’s is perfect for this application and you get 8 flexible, precisely dialed in clocks in low HP. I can really imagine dialing in something more life-like and human with this. That can allow you to fine-tune sync or even create your own grooves. You can tweak timing on everything – each channel has two knobs for shifting and shuffling. ![]() Power Clocks uses 25 less energy than the best static clock and 10 less than. This is all fine and well, but I think it’s the adjustment that makes this interesting. In Power Clocks, kernel hardware drivers asyn- chronously request clocks. Or, of course, the multiclock – like the midiclock+ before it – can simply be your stable clock source for everything else. If you really must use a USB MIDI connection, fine – that works. You can use clock signals from analog modular gear. So you can use MIDI or DIN (from more reliable MIDI gear that isn’t a computer, that is). You still retain the versatility to use what you want. That’s my explanation, not E-RM’s, so I hope they approve. ![]() Remember when you could use a phone to tell what time it was? A lady’s voice would intone from the other end, “the time is now… 7:45 and 33 seconds pm.” Think of a MIDI stream as giving you those time indications a little irregularly – not quite on the right tick – and an audio stream giving times that are always exactly correct, many times per second (44,100 times per second for a regular CD audio setting, for instance). That allows you to use a computer as a clock source without some of the nastiness that can often ensue. Whereas MIDI and MIDI over USB from a computer are inherently susceptible to jitter, E-RM claims that the audio synchronization gives them sample-to-sample accuracy. ![]() The most important thing to know about the multiclock is that it takes this obsession with getting sync right directly to your computer’s audio card. Just announced, the multiclock is the follow-up to the midiclock+, the clever MIDI sync box introduced by Berlin’s boutique E-RM Erfindungsbüro back in 2012. But the E-RM multiclock claims to do it even with a computer as the clock source – without jittering. Midihub can generate clock, but it is bound by the physical transports - DIN-5 MIDI connections are quite predictable of when the data will get sent out, but USB data can only be sent when the USB host requests for new data, which should happen at most every 1ms, so no USB MIDI device can guarantee accurate clock messages.Īre you using DIN-5 MIDI for connecting all the devices together? Things shouldn’t really be going out of sync, unless there’s some device in the chain that is misbehaving, has the number of steps in a pattern set to an unusual value, or the cables are damaged - after devices receive the song position pointer message and a start/continue message, all of them should receive the exact same amount of MIDI clock messages, keeping all of them in sync. We’ve seen boxes that claim to sync everything you have to everything else you have. In case Midihub is routing the tempo messages to other devices, it does not perform any timing correction, but the MIDI realtime messages are given priority, so they are routed and sent first. Hey, Midihub has the following pipes for dealing with tempo sync messages: Clock, Tempo Divider and Sync Delay. ![]() As the city and the nation are poised on the brink of political upheaval, suburban housewife Joy (Elizabeth Banks) leads an ordinary life with her husband and daughter. The hint system is basically a walk throught the game, if you're stuck, this prevents you from buying a game walkthrough book. That way you can just look at most of the movie sequences. It is a series of saved games each day, with everything done and found. In the whole game there are only two places where you could get killed and precise timing is required, in other occasions you could get killed only because of your stupidity (for example, going through doors, thorough which you can hear the guards talking).Ī thing which makes it possible to play throught the game without ever using your brain is called "Easy" (very creative, isn't it?). In fact, if you're smart, you can play through the game wihtout getting killed even once. The good thing is that you can't get killed very often. in the sky" will bring you back to life (i.e., to your last game save, so save the game often). Unlike Myst and it's clones, in this game you can get killed. I especially liked the way the big story unfolds - you always know just a bit less than you'd like to know. There are many puzzles (mysteries would be more appropriate) to be solved and many things to be done. Unless you're a total genius, you won't get through the game in one day. The game play is very good and well balanced, you move around about 70% of the time (usually you're searching for something or solving a "puzzle"), and talk to people 30% of the time (no information is ever free, so you usually have to do something for that person to get the piece of information). If you do everything right and don't get killed, you'll advance on to Day 2 - where the big story will start to unfold. The first day's job is in no way associated with the big story, it serves just as an intro to the game. There are many characters you'll meet in this game, and here are just four of them:Įventually, you'll have to find a job, 'cause you need money badly. Then, if you're observant, you can find your gun (which, beacause of your stupidity, you will never use), pick up the mail (which is just flyers), and just look around your "office" (after all, it is the place where you live).Īfter that, you'll go outside (because it's the only place where you can go) looking for a job. You start out in your "office" without really knowing much. Let's not jump ahead, and let's look at the game as it begins. The game is controlled solely by mouse, but you can use keyboard shortcuts, if you desire. But don't get me wrong - there still is lots of action involved you have to sneak past the guards, hide, and then shoot when the time is right, for example. Instead, it is a game of thought and intelligence. The gameplayīefore I even start, let's get one thing straight - UAKM is not an action game. Most of the norms don't care very much about the mutants.Well, that is about all you know when you start the game, you'll have to find out more as the game progresses. The other group of people are the "Norms" - people who have natural immunition to radiation (Tex is one of them) and are, therefore, not affected by the radiation. To be more specific, Tex lives in the Old San Franciso, which is, mostly, populated by mutants - people who have mutated (did you expect something else?), an effect of the excessive amount of radiation. The year is 2042, just a few years after World War 3 (the source of radiation and the cause of destruction), and the place is San Franciso. Overall, he is likeable and a very appropriate character for this game. If you like detectives from classic detective movies, you will definately like Tex. The character of Tex is somewhere in his thirties and has wrinkles and a bad back from drinking, smoking, a poor diet and lack of exercise. He has already appeared in two previous Access games - Mean Streets and Martian Memorandum. ![]() ![]() In this game, you take the role of Tex Murphy, a P.I. Unlike other "interactive" movies, UAKM actually is interactive! The story so far. Besides, UAKM is one of the best "interactive movies" ever. When I searched the GD Review archives, I was suprised not to find an Under A Killing Moon (UAKM will be used from now on) review! So I knew that I just had to review it. |
